Total Five Common Fault Of A.C. Motor And Its Causes. 

1). Fault— The Motor Fails to Start.

⇒ Causes— 
› The supply voltage low.
› The fuses are burnt out.
› Only two phases are present in the supply.
› The bearings have jammed.
› The starter contacts are not touching to each other.

2). Fault- The Motor Gets Heated Up.

⇒ Causes—
› The motor is overloaded.
› The winding have short circuit defect.
› The bearing is defective or worn.

3). Fault- The Motor Is humming. (a sort of sound).

⇒ Causes—
› The foundation of the motor is loose.
› The rotor winding has an open-circuit defect.
› The bearing is loose.
› The motor is not fitted tightly.
› The motor overloaded.

4). Fault- The Motor is vibrating.

⇒ Cause—
› The foundation of the motor is loose.
› The motor alignment is not proper.
› The bearings are defective or worn.

Common Faults of starter—

› The starter of the slip-ring motor has short-circuited defect.
› The starter of a slip-ring motor is earthed.
› The contact points of the starter remain open circuited.
› The no-volt coil is not functioning.
› The overload relay coil is defective.
› The starter connections are wrong.
